Mazandaran University of Science and Technology

The history of modern centers of higher education in Iran dates back to about 100 years ago. During this period, with the developments that occurred in Iran’s higher education system, new methods were gradually adopted to manage educational units, which included the entry of the non-governmental sector into this field and the establishment of universities that operate independently and without depending on government budgets. Mazandaran University of Science and Technology is one is the first non-profit non-governmental universities in Iran. This university, which was founded more than three decades ago, is located in the city of Babol in the Mazandaran Province of Iran.

History of Mazandaran University of Science and Technology

With the increase in the number of Iran’s young population and the transformation that occurred in its educational system, a program was proposed in the early 1990s to expand the country’s centers of higher education. This program allowed the non-governmental sector to establish universities by using the various facilities available to them and to operate according to the existing rules and regulations. In this way, non-governmental universities became official, and Mazandaran University of Science and Technology, as the first non-profit non-governmental university of the country, started its activities in 1992.

This university is engaged in educating and training students of higher education in three groups and 36 courses and academic orientations. Also, three technical and engineering faculties (comprising five educational groups), industrial and computer engineering (with three educational groups), and humanities and management (consisting of five educational groups) function under the management structure of this university.

Having 17,000 square meters of educational space, 12 workshops, and 24 laboratories has expanded the possibility for students and researchers of Mazandaran University of Science and Technology to benefit from research equipment. The existence of these facilities has made this university one of the top non-profit universities in Iran.

Research Activities of Mazandaran University of Science and Technology

The publication of 1396 articles in domestic journals and conferences, 488 articles in ISI, and organizing four scientific conferences are among the research activities of this university and its students by 2023. The four conferences held at this university were:

1. The 13th International Conference on Industrial Engineering: This two-day event was held in 2017 in which a number of articles related to the latest developments in industrial engineering in the world were presented.

2. The 17th International Conference on Management and Applications of Information and Technology: This scientific event was held in early 2017 and its accepted articles in the field of computer science and information systems were published in the form of a journal.

3. The 12th International Conference of the Iranian Operations Research Society: This two-day event was held in 2019.

4. The 8th International Conference on Technology and Energy Management: This scientific event was held in 2023 in collaboration with the Iranian Energy Association (CIVILICA) by taking into account the latest issues in the field of energy, engineering, and technology.

According to the available information in the database of Iranian universities, in 2023 about 3000 students pursued their higher education at Mazandaran University of Science and Technology under the supervision of 50 faculty members of this university.

International Activities of Mazandaran University of Science and Technology

Being in interaction with foreign scientific and research centers abroad, as one of the ways to improve the scientific level of Mazandaran University of Science and Technology, has been the focus of its officials. This university has established high scientific cooperation with two Indian universities and a South Korean university. Sending postgraduate students to these universities is one of the fields of cooperation between these universities.
